Anyone remember what happened in 1993 today?

#1 Postby David » Thu Feb 26, 2004 10:11 pm

1993 - Six people were killed and over a thousand people were injured in New York City, when a van loaded with a 1,210-pound bomb exploded in the World Trade Center's parking garage. The explosion left a crater, 200 feet wide, causing over 591 million dollars in damage. Dr. Sheik Omar Abdul Rahman and fourteen of his followers were accused of the bombing. Rahman is serving a life sentence in a United States prison.

In the back's of our memory.... unless you were there. ;)

I haven't forgotten but I didn't exactly remember the date either. My husband and I visited NYC October of that year. And he convinced me to go to the top of the WTC, to the inside observation deck. The outside deck was closed b/c of the bombing we were told. Security guards searched you before you rode the elevators. It actually at the time made me feel safer. We could look over at Windows on the World, and could see tables set with white tablecloths. But it was also closed, b/c the restaurant's kitchen was in a sub basement, taken out by the bombing. I remember feeling sad for the victims but grateful the building wasn't damaged more severely. Little did we know what was coming.

Thanks for the reminder David. I prayed for the victims of the bombing. Sometimes people forget there were more victims, other than from just 9/11.

I can remember the date of the first WTC Bombing being February 26th. One of many news stories that seem more recent. Hard to believe I turned 16 that July.

The famous globe that was salvaged from the wreckage last year was a monument to the actuall #7 that died in the 1993 WTC bombling. I was living in Vermont when it happened and my best friends sister worked in the WTC on the 88th floor. She had to walk down the smoke filled stairs and suffered smoke inhallation. She quit her job there a month later because she didnt feel safe. When the towers collapsed 8 years later 50 people she worked with in 1993 died. Just for your info the Blind Shiek presently in jail is still a problem as he communicates to his followers around the world. I say kill em all and ask questions later.
