Monorail...anyone ever heard of that? lol

Actually, it's been a great computer. It is nearly 4 years old and I've only had a couple of very minor repairs that I was able to do myself.

As soon as it dies though, dude, I'm getting a Dell

My PC is ... believe it or not ... 8 years old and still kickin' with upgraded stuff.

However, I am getting my father's system as he has got the mother of all systems basically just today ... I plan on keeping this PC and acquiring my father's older system ... I'll have 2 to play with. (SWEET!!!)

I will also be buying a good quality digital camera very shortly as well ... so I can bring updates back to my website (which needs updating something fierce!)

eMachines here 1.8 Ghz, 40Mb HD, 512K RAM.

I refuse to pay the prices for the name brand computers when this one is as good or better than the rest. Besides, when it is out-dated, I can afford to replace it instead of having to wait until it is really out dated.

I have a couple of DELL's. A desktop and a laptop. The desktop runs win2k @ 900MHz w/512mb of ram. The laptop runs Xp pro @ 1GHz w/256mb of ram.

I still have the first PC that I bought. It's a Gateway 133MHz. I'm thinking about putting Linux on it, just to see what that OS is all about.

Constructionwx, your first computer was a 133? You must be a youngster! I remember when my parents bought a first generation handheld calculator! I've owned an 8088 (DOS, monochrome monitor, no mouse), a 386 (It actually ran windows 95), a 486-66, which I upgraded with a P90 Overdrive processor and upgraded ram. I still have it for the kids homework and some games. See above for current machine.

I have an EMachines T1140 with a 1.1 GHZ processor, 128 MB of RAM, a 20 gig hard drive, 768K/128K current DSL modem and a 56K standard dial-up modem, 48x CD-RW and CD-ROM drives (I added the CD-RW drive myself), and that's about it! Oh yeah, a 17" monitor too!

Hey Coriolis,
Not exactly a youngster, how about 29 and holdin' . Actually my very first computer, if you want to go way back, was a Compucolor II. I worked for Intecolor Corp. in Norcross, GA in the late 70's and they produced it. I just never really considered it a "PC". IBM coined that phrase just a couple of years after we started manufacturing the CCII.

It was a color CRT, had a TI8080A processor. 8k of ram. 5 1/2" floppy disk. The OS was called Extended Disk Basic. I never really owned it, hehe, it was just on perpetual loan from my boss :D . We had a bunch of arcade style games for it. Space invaders, Star trek, eventually Pac Man etc.

I'm sure you have heard of Hayes Modems. They were just a short walk from our building. Dennis Hayes would come down the street, with one of his modems in hand and let us test it for him. He would go back to his place and we would dial up his "server" and yack back and forth. He would tell us to tweak it this way or that way, pretty neat stuff to see as a teenager!!

You mentioned the first gen calculator....... Do you remember how much it cost?

At home, I have a Gateway 500S. At work I use a Mac iBook G3. I prefer the Mac but enjoy the Gateway over our Cox cable modem.

My computer knowledge started with Mac back in 1983.
