That is VERY true here in NE also! Motorists here, though, do not understand that a STOP sign is a STOP sign. I have personally got VERY stern with a motorist who totally disregarded the STOP sign on my campus this past spring. Guess what? He was on his cell phone. :  :x

An update.. according to Risk Control at my store.. The woman has chosen not to file a claim, and maybe had a bad day.. that's why she reacted the way she did..

In fact.. me and a couple other employees had a big laugh about it today lol

That's good to hear! :D I am no Mr. Statistic, but I guess that about 60% of the time when people get mean, give bad looks, or plain just are rude, they are just not having the best day of their life.

I am sure she would apologize for her reaction also. :)

Two earlier posts nailed it - parking lot cameras and your right-of-way.

It's just like a pushboat with multiple barges heading downriver...the pilot isn't in total control of all units and all upward bound vessels give way...same with a row of carts in the parking lot...the woman driving is obviously in more control of her one vehicle than you are with mutiple carts...

John,

You dodged a bullet. Plain and simple. Because no matter who was right and who was wrong, when you - as you say, retaliated- you opened yourself and the store up to possible trouble. If the woman had wanted to take it farther, she could have pointed to your reaction and called you all kind of names. It doesn't matter that none of them is true. To get her off their backs, Walmart could have let you go.

My son has worked in retail and we've seen similar situations happens.

You were very lucky. The next time, some foulmouth jerk pops off, there are a few things you can do. You can either say, "Yes Ma'am" or "Yes Sir" each time the person comes up for air. Or you can just stand there, patiently and when they are done, say something like, "I'm so sorry, I didn't quite catch that, Would you mind repeating that?" Or, of course, "Let me get the Manager for you. I think we need some help here from Store Management and Security."

What you don't ever want to do is put yourself in a position where you have to explain yourself and your behavior later on. The sad fact is that people who go shopping are sometimes real jerks. They take out their anger and frustration on innocent bystanders and store employees.

It would be a shame if one of those type of people cost you your job.

Just my 2 cents.

Ive been told to stick a pizza up my a$$ while delivering to a "lady" who felt like she had to wait too long. Later that same evening ( this has been awhile back btw) I was directed by management to deliver to this shining example of humanity a fresh pizza. I refused and told the manager what had happened. Another driver was sent. Those of us in the service industry do NOT have to take that kind of crap from customers and I will be damned if I will. I understand that customers get upset when things go wrong but of they vent their gripes in a semi civil manner its much easier for me and my fellow co workers to arrive at a solution to the problem. Remember this folks: When you order pizza for delivery, when you go to the supermarket, when you go out to eat, that person waiting on you has feelings too.
