Bronwyn, thanks for the prayers. And I like the positive confession too.

So that's 6 days for you? Are you going to go cold turkey? Does the Mr. smoke?

Well, I'm a smoker. Yes, shame, shame on me. I've smoked for 40 years, except when I was pregnant for my daughters. I don't smoke when I visit my kids, or at work, or when I go to public places. I do smoke when I'm driving and when I'm at home. When I haven't smoked for a while, I hate the smell of my clothes and my car!!!! Go figure!! I love the new commercials with the cigarette butt head taunting the smoker.lol

Bron, what is that day that you're going to quit. Maybe I'll hang in there with you if you don't mind. Either way I'll say a prayer that God will give you that will power!!

Now, Streetsoldier, I'd like to have a word with you young man!!!!! Coppertop would really miss his mentor.

Ok, I better go grab a cup of tea and a cigarette. I don't have many more days left.

Great decision Bronni!! I smoked for several years and quit cold turkey when I got pregnant with my first little boy. I had smoked about a pack a day, more or less. It wasn't easy but I did it for my baby so that definitely made it worth it and easier. My husband smokes, but only outside. (kids) Now I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. Every once in a while I'll crave a cigarette but I'll never start smoking again. I feel better now, I smell better now, I don't cough constantly, I have more money ;), etc.!!

My dad smoked for over 25 years and when he finally decided to quit, he smoked at least 2 packs a day. He set a date to quit: January 2nd, 1987 & he quit cold turkey. When I was a kid, I tried to get him to quit with pamphlets, speeches, and a lot of nagging. I'm glad it finally worked. It's hard to believe that I ever smoked after all of the grief I gave him about smoking! lol, but man was it a good stress-buster for me!! No wonder I'm so stressed all the time. Oh well, it's a bad habit and if you don't smoke now, don't start. They told my dad that his lungs would start healing as soon as he quit. It's been 16 years since he quit and even though he's older, he's healthier now than he was then.

Congratulations on your decision Bronni!!

I've never smoked (with asthma, it would kill me), but two of my sisters do...and I've been on a diet since I was 16 :D , so I know how difficult bad habits are to stop.

Maria, age 27..has been trying to kick the habit for several years...she started in high school, and her husband Chris also smokes. Both have quit a couple times, only to resume the habit.

Beth, age 18 started smoking last year. As far as I know, she hasn't tried to stop (dad is begging her too).

I wish you the best of luck Bronwyn, and am praying for you :)

Ever notice how strong we can be on some things...never wavering in an entire lifetime, but we can't seem to make it 48 hours when it comes to doing some things that are good for us....losing weight, quitting smoking, pushing that drink away, or making that call that you've been putting off.

Seems way too easy to simply remind ourselves that "I'll start tomorrow instead." I hate that copout...but use it all too often.

But....when you can feel the encouragement of others just out of reach behind you...well that helps a lot.

We're pulling for you!

I wish you much luck, Bronwyn and anyone else trying to quit smoking. I have never smoked a cigarette (or anything else) my entire life. Too bad many people pick up this awful, unhealthy habit.

The great thing is... fewer and fewer individuals are not smoking, unlike decades past. It is great that it is repeatedly told to children that smoking is very bad for you.
