Workouts and Gyms

#1 Postby azsnowman » Fri Oct 31, 2003 8:48 am

Just curious, how many here workout and/or go to the gym? I've been going to the gym here in town for about 4 weeks now.......I need to tone up my upperbody in preperation for my Az State POST Exam (Peace Officers Standard and Training Board Exam). I've been studying the manual like CRAZY and received my application, or should I say "NOVEL!"...the app is 26 PAGES long  The exam looks fairly easy, in a matter of speakin'.....but the physical test  I've got another 3 months to get in shape. I'm a commisioned officer for the Apache Police as most of you know, I'm just not a state certified peace officer, I only have juristiction on the rez, not off.....so I'm going for my state cert., Pinetop/Lakeside PD has been BEGGING for reserve officers here in town, hence the reason for my wanting to become state certified.

Dennis mate,

I've been going to the gymn for the last 10 years, and there's always so much talk about these new ways to gain muscle and lose body fat. The best way, I think, is to lift lightweight to moderately heavy weight. Not talking about slapping 2x45lbs on a bar bell, but, try and focus on cardio lifting, rather than heavy lifting. What I mean is more nautilus machines than free weights. What this will do, is actually tone you up faster in a short period of time, but be prepared for some pain the following day! It will also make it more fun. I actually don't go to the gymn that much anymore but more so workout at home. I'll do 80 pushups (4sets of 20 reps) and leaving about 30 seconds in between Mon/Wed/Frid. Keep this same regime for other body parts, but concentrate on different muscle types on different days. Cardio workout is very good, from walking to laps in a swimming pool. Kickboxing, yeah, that's very good, I'm actually a brown belt in Wado Ru - karate and that was a terrific workout. You get a 6 pack, maybe 12 pack in a week!! lol

Anyway Dennis, goodluck mate with the POST exam.

I am too much of a couch potato to go to a gym. Although I do play tennis during the spring/summer. And I will be playing football tomorrow. Plus mowing the yard once a week is pretty good exercise.

I agree Cy......I've been training on the Nautilus Machines for the past month, I can already see my forearms, chest and triceps returning to where they use to be cutting meat.

I've been off and on the Atkins Diet now for 6 months, the first month I lost over 54 LBS!!!!!! Now, I'm maintaining my weight at 254 lbs. I'll slip in some *carbs* every now and then, man can't live by elk, deer, beef alone, besides, I "LOVE" my rice!

The posts or stuff said are NOT an official forecast and my opinion alone. Please look to the NHC and NWS for official forecasts and products.

I used to go to the gym, but I just don't have the energy when I get home at night - although I know that after a workout you feel more energized.

I love working outside and I feel and look better after I've done so. One day I want to get a treadmill. I do stretches and situps in the morning a couple of times a week.

The best I can do is lengthen my walks with Annabelle (she be a ho') when she needs to "go 'side"; I'm up to about five blocks out at this time.
