$2.4 million found hidden in truck

#1 Postby BEER980 » Sat Aug 21, 2004 8:35 am

DETROIT, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Customs agents have seized $2.4 million concealed in a tractor-trailer truck heading from Canada to Texas across Detroit's Ambassador Bridge.

The haul was the largest cash seizure ever from a truck at a border crossing.

WDIV-TV in Detroit reported that the cash found Wednesday included $1.9 million in envelopes bundled in boxes marked as bottled water. The rest of the money was behind a refrigerator in the cab.

The driver told Customs and Immigration officers at the bridge that he was carrying a load of aluminum blanks. He was arrested and investigators are now trying to determine what he was planning to do with the money.

Very disturbing discovery IMO.

I'm hoping it was drug money on its' way here to be laundered as opposed to money being sent to sleeper cells we know are in existence all over this country. Neither one is good, but the first is much more preferable as to what the money might be used for.

lol SF, me too!

Well David, if it was for sleeper cells, it's not now. Nothing like putting a damper on their plans.

The worst part about that southerngale is that it only would of postponed their plans. I'm sure we would all be surprised at how little this stop would have affected them. It is the same as drugs, you can make as many stops as possible, but you most likely will never stop the drugs from coming in. It is a nearly impossible task.

Yeah NWIASpotter, I realize that. That's why I said "a damper on things" instead of "an end to it" or something. I was trying to be positive.

I do agree with you.

I'm inclined to go along with the Drug Money idea since copious coins are seized on almost a daily basis down here. The sleeper cells probably use "legitimate" means to obtain money such as "charities" and collaborators in this Country.

lol in any case however, hopefully the money wasnt going to the sleepers. Those are definitly the biggest threat to our country today (well north korea is a big threat too).
