ATL: KARL - Ex-Hurricane - Discussion
Moderator: S2k Moderators
The other thing to note is there is a 50% chance of this strengthening by 25kts in the next 24hrs!!
I'm thinking actually Hurakan didn't make a bad call looking at al lthe data now with a possible major at landfall, its got a good 36hrs to strengthen as well which is more then enough time as Julia proved!

Thats a really classic looking hurricane there Alan, no doubt this is going to be a decent hurricane once the eye emerges on the Vis imagery, I'm fully expecting this will continue to undergo rapid strengthening.

Re: ATL: KARL - Tropical Storm - Discussion
The Gulf has been pretty active for Mexico this year, Karl is such an interesting systems to track and such a dangerous system to watch especially because some places in Mexico are already suffering from floods.

Re: ATL: KARL - Tropical Storm - Discussion
So, we've had 5 hurricanes thus far, one Cat 2, and 4 Cat 4's - all since 21 August, and when Karl becomes a hurricane, that will be
Hurricanes: 6
Tropical storms: 5
Tropical depressions: 2
Named storms: 11
Major hurricanes: 4 (or 5, if Karl makes it)
Not bad for a "bust" season still in peak, LOL!

ok, everyone needs to check out s2k's newest feature courtesy of x-y-no's hard work as well as Chris's of tropicaltalantic.com
Go to this link to see an automatic update of recon data via google earth (if you don't have google earth- you just need to download the plug in) super easy peasy! Thanks to both these guys for what they have added here. Right now you can move the map to see recon for all storms in the atlantic, BOC and the gulf. Just move over to the area where recon is for each storm and voila!
thanks again guys!

It hasn't happened since 1998, when there were 4 hurricanes at the same time. 2005's Ophelia missed it by 6 hours.

You're right... Gustav and Ike missed each other's hurricane intensities by a a couple days.

Karl's a little south so it might hold its potential to a category 2.
Good thing the Gaston remnants didn't develop since they were further north.
The number of majors is justifying the NHC prediction.

Irony is same name set and 3 of the same letters
Georges, Ivan, Jeanne and Karl were hurricanes at same time in 1998.

There's a political map and a population map posted back on page 53 of this thread.
