Anyone got an explanation for what's happening to the SE quad including the CDO?

Lots of people pre season said this was the year the Caribbean would "wake up". They were correct. The signs were there to see

Iota also seems aimed at the more populated regions north of the exact landfall location of Eta. Awful.

The SE portion of the CDO is also the coldest part. I think it's just the evolution of the circulation.

Probably some light shear from the SE. iota is strong enough though, and it’s core is well-formed enough that this probably won’t have any effect. Kind of reminds me of Michael reaching cat5

I'm measuring an eye diameter of 8nm or less now. Impressive storm, for mid-September...

I'm amazed that some of you stayed up all night for this (although probably not quite as amazed as I am at Iota). Talk about DEDICATION.
Even though she didn't officially get to Cat 5 until morning so you probably didn't really have to.

I still think Eta had a better satellite presentation at its peak, along with a smaller, warmer eye and much more symmetric CDO. Eta was likely ~150 knots.

Nah, that 10 mb drop between passes was worth staying up for.

It does hurt me too when I think about the fear those in CA have inside of them...hurts me alot...

The HWRF busted badly with Iota’s track and large eye predictions. Surprisingly, it seems like the HMON did the best job with Iota.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Seems to me that perhaps Iota may have been undergoing a bit or eyewall contraction. Eye appears smaller with colder tops surrounding the eye a bit more symmetrically then over the last hour or two. Also seems to be better cleared out. After a brief pause following the rapid ongoing deepening, I think a continued (albeit slower) rate of pressure drop may be occurring.

When will next recon be making first fix? I'm guessing we'll see 914/915mb.
