Sad day, accident on the lake I live on (LK Goodwin WA)

#1 Postby R-Dub » Sun Aug 14, 2005 10:39 pm

A 12 year old girl on riding on the back of a Yamaha PWC somehow got the tow rope that was used to tow a tube wrapped around her arm, and the driver didn't know, gunned the PWC and severed the passengers arm off. It happened out in front of my house, but didn't actually see it happen. From what I could tell the girl was alive and moving around when being hauled out of the water down the way. Lots of screaming and chaos going on. Life flight flew in and picked her up. Then the search was on to find the arm. I hopped on my ski and helped search for a bit, but many of us including myself was told to leave since it was getting to be to crowded in the area. I took a few pics of the search. Unfortunately 3hrs after the accident they are still looking.

Accidents like that are sad to hear about. They seem so unnecessary. I hope the young girl recovers, however, and that she will find a wonderful life ahead of her in spite of the loss of a limb.

You live in a beautiful place.

Yeah it is beautiful here, been to many different places in the country, but I still love to come home :D Couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

They never did find the arm, divers were searching until dark last night with no luck. Haven't heard how the girl is doing.

Hopefully after she recovers she can find a way to make contact with Bethany Hamilton, the 13-year-old who lost her arm to a shark attack in Hawaii. She has become an inspiration to many, me included.

Her website is http://www.bethanyhamilton.com in case you have the opportunity to share that with her family.

Got more info this afternoon, apparently the girls had dropped off the tube but had left the rope attached to the PWC. There were three girls on the ski, and the one on the far back wrapped her arm around the rope so that if she were to fall off, she wouldn't go far. That made it even more tragic, you would think the parents would have seen them drop off the tube but not the rope at the dock. Guess there was a little too much trust going on! Even with full insurance, I am still extremely paranoid about letting anyone else on my ski! I sit on the dock keep my eyes on who ever is riding my ski if I am not on my other ski by them. And unless they are experienced, I always just ride with them so I don't have to freak out on the dock!

The divers were back out today still searching for the arm. The girl is in Satisfatory condition at the hospital.
