WINTER 2005-2006 (I KNOW IT'S EARLY)
Any early indications of what the winter may be like? Just throwing it out there.

For what part of the country? This can make a big difference when you are referring to anomalies.

I wouldn't call winters here in Kentucky horrible by any means. We have not had a good solid winter in a while because of many factors. Weather is a cyclical beast and we have been in a relative lull in winter weather of late. One can trace these up and down cycles through the decades.
2002/03 was a great winter for much of Kentucky. We had periodic snows and a crippling ice storm that was a mid level warm layer away from being 2 feet of snow.
Moral of the story is there have been plenty of great beginning to end winters here in Kentucky and there will be many more to come over the years!
Take care!

Carve,
I live In Dayton. We were lucky enough to get that one big snow close to Christmas. I would have rathered that it was spread out over time, 3 inches here and there..... could have enjoyed it alot longer. Didn't have much after that. I hope we get tons this winter like "95-96" or "78"

Sure was! I'll never forget it! We had two severe winters back to back in the Ohio Valley, the Ohio River froze over, so much so that people were illegally driving jeeps across it. And walking across it, of course (I didn't). One of these winters we had snow on the ground for 3 months. We did not see grass. At the time, we wondered if the next ice age was coming (not really, but these winters were brutal!).

Those were the winters that caused a good deal of climatological community to suggest that we were entering a cold period - mini ice age. Today it's the exact opposite. Weather-climate is cyclical and some last longer than others. It depends on the variables involved.
