Inspire by Janice's Thread...What did you want to be?

All of this talk about the clothes we were when we were younger and would not be caught in made me think of the silly things I did as a teenager.

Anyone looking? Sit down! I wanted to be a rock n roll star when I was in high school. Funny because I have no musical talent!

When I was 3, I wanted to be a meteorologist.

By the time I was about 7, I had decided to become a veterinarian (This was, of course, before I realized just how much school was involved).

There was an actress phase somewhere around age 12....

By the time I was in high school, though, I had settled on wanting to become a journalist/author.....and that still hasn't changed....even though its unlikely to happen now.... :( I hate getting old.... :x

Puh-leeze, Karli...if you're old, I'm Olivia Newton-John.

Me? Astronaut, firefighter, and surgeon were my top three. The surgeon dream lived on until I worked in the ER and was able to be a part of such a great team of medical professionals and got to experience so much...without the med school bills. :)

I always wanted to teach high school. Call me nuts but I can relate much better to teenagers than I can to elementary and junior high kids. Sigh....*dream*

Mine isn't so much what I wanted to be, because I always knew the mom thing was for me....but what kind of mom I wanted to be. I planned on being much more permissive than I find myself being.

"I'm gonna let my kids _____________."( fill in the blank with anything I did as a teenager that I shouldn't have been doing!)

Having done a lot of things that I shouldn't have, now it nearly stops my heart to think that I have to allow my kids the freedom to do some of those same things! I can only hope they won't want to!

Around the age of 8, I always wanted to be an actress. It almost never left me. I wrote my own plays when I was younger and used to act them out at holiday times at my grandparents house. I would get all my cousins to participate in it. My first play was about Punky Brewster. I had just turned 8. I starred as Punky of course. The next year, when I was 9, I did the Miracle Worker at Thanksgiving. I learned the manual alphabet and played Helen. I wrote all the lines and added on from the version of Patty Duke. I even wore a long dress and had everyone dressed like the 1800's. My uncle still has it perserved on tape. Then, when I was around 10, the flair for gymnastics became very strong. I watched the movie about Nadia Comaneche over and over. I wanted to be a gymnast very badly. But, at age 10, I was already considered to be too old for just starting out. They had a gymnastics place about a mile down the road from my house. So, I begged my mom to let me join and I was in it for about 2 years. It got too expensive, so my mom had no choice but to take me out. I actually just started to get good. I could run and a cut a flip in mid air on the ground. My acting flair still had not left me. So, of course, I had to try to put on a play about Nadia. But, all my cousins were active gymnasts, too. And one of my cousins was better than I. And I got jealous and we argued so much over who was going to play Nadia, that the play never went on.

The acting flair still went out all through high school. I joined drama class my sophomore year. I was in several plays and skits. The acting thing was still strong in my early 20's when I tried out for Driving Miss Daisy at the local theater. But, did not get the part because they were looking for someone older.

Now, with all that acting thing that was going on, at the same time was my love for weather. Especially severe weather and hurricanes. I started trying to track storms as early as around 9. But, the turning point was Andrew after I just turned 16. I wanted to go to college for Meterology. But, was terrible at math and could not bare to go through 3 years of calculus. Meterology is a lot of school. I am now 29, and it may be a little late for this, but I am leaning towards going to college to pursue a degree in journalism. That way it will keep my everlasting love for both acting and weather combined.

Of course I wanted to be a met, but the math was WAYYY to much for me. I was decent at trig but calculus proved to be too much. Ive been in fast food management as well but the hours were too long and the pay too low.

I wanted to be an interpreter or an Ambassador at the UN. My dad was in foreign service so that had to be the influence.

I also wanted to be an archaeologist, a lawyer, and an assassin. I thought that would be cool. I grew out of that one.

I wanted to be an actress. My mom always talked about me being a teacher--yuck! No offense to teachers--just not for me. Then suddenly my sister decided she wanted to go to nursing school and wanted us to go together. I always swore I would NEVER be a nurse. Well they talked me into it but my sis changed her mind. Guess what? I have been a nurse for over 30 years now. I would have loved to be able to go to med school but life (and kids) kinda got in the way. I would love to be a writer and may give it a shot someday. I don't think you are ever too old.
