Hebert Box, but missed Florida?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Hebert Box, but missed Florida?

#1 Postby mahicks » Tue Aug 16, 2005 6:01 pm

Does anyone know which storms went through the boxes, yet missed Florida?

I think there have been more storms that missed the boxes and hit Florida.

So would you say this is "accurate" the past 10 years or so?

I only ask, for it looks like the naked swirl ex-td 10 will go through the box in the next couple of days..

And IF, it becomes something, what will that mean.

I knew Emily... I was mostly concerned with Box 1.

I guess you would also have to use some common sense on the direction it was heading before passing through the box??

Off the top of my head.....

Lenny
Luis
Marilyn
Hugo
Jose
Debby
...and now with the help of Unisys (past 10 years)

Bonnie
Erika
Bertha
Hortense
Iris
...and that's Box 1, for the past 10 years.

In fact, here's a list of storms that passed through Box 1 within the past 10 years that DID impact Florida:

Georges
Frances
Jeanne
Dennis

So really, I think that answers your speculation.

Just my opinion but I think the thought was for storms moving west and passing through the Hebert box so I would tend to think that discontinues Lenny from that speculation

http://www.hurricanecity.com/hebertbox.htm

Towards the bottom there is a list of the storms from 1950-2000 that went through the box. While the box is a generally prerequisite for storms to hit Florida, it isn't exclusive to that state. The probability of a North Carolina hit is about the same from that area.

Bet the pronunciation depends on whether you're in Louisiana or New York.
