I don't care if the GFS is fed a steady diet of crack or not- this is one heck of a hurricane in 384 hours:

Gotta save this image to see what the real map looks like at 2pm EDT 384 hours from now....well, 2pm today.

http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod ... loop.shtml

Here is the loop of this run and puts a strong cane on my neck of the woods but of course it's a long range and the models change so what we look for is for trends from GFS and the other globals.

If this was a 0Z or 12Z run and there was a trend, then I would panic. But this is an 18Z run and I didn't see this when I checked yesterday night, so I'm pretty sure this is erroneous. (unless it continues appearing for the next few days)

Guys, let's assume for a moment that everything about that 384 hr GFS is correct including the synoptic pattern over North America, would it portend for a U.S. landfall or not? Remember, we're assuming for the sake of argument that the pattern depicted is 100% correct.

Wow, sure looks scary. This will not occur of course, but there might be a hurricane in that general area. Also it means conditions might be more favorable.

Re: Island hopping

In reference to Floydbuster's question about HurricaneTrack.com going on a mission to the Caribbean Islands- including PR:

Yes we will if we think we can get out and get back to the U.S. if indeed the U.S. will be hit too by the same hurricane. I would hate to be stuck in the islands and miss a landfalling U.S. hurricane.....but we'll see....gotta have a hurricane out there first and there don't seem to be too many in the near future.

I like big canes and I can not lie
you other posters can't deny
when an open wave becomes a big hurricane and puts that eyewall in your face...
you get sprung...

Wanna see the brunt
cause you notice pressure is low

Deep goes the pressure, you're swearing
you're hooked and you can't stop staring
Oh cane I wanna get with ya
Let recon take your picture
Those mets they tried to warn me
Those winds you got
put it on me

Oooh, all those high winds
you say you're headed for land??
Well please please, please please,
you ain't that average swirl geez,
I've seen them coming,
The he*l with running,
Rain, wind, gonna ride it out to the end
I'm tired of threads and things
saying this storm ain't no thing
Take the average poster and ask them that
Storms keep bringing me back...

Posters? (yeah) Posters? (yeah)
As this storm got a chance? (he*l yeah)
Well track it, track it, track it, track it, track that healthy storm
This storms on track.....

the end

cheers,
loon

(sang to sir mix a lots baby got back...IF perhaps you didn't catch on to that)

No if the 384 hr GFS was completely right then the "system" would not make landfall. But it would not be a fish, it would impact the northern Lesser Antilles, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico pretty hard. Something like Luis in 1995.

heh, I just made that up after I noticed I had nothing really to add to the conversation, so I made it up on the fly. If people like it maybe I'll start from the beginning and make the entire song. It could be the Storm2k theme song, hehehehe.

Or not.....heh, either way.

cheers,
loon

Its still way to far out to tell if this is going to happen
