Whats going on at the Mouth of the Mississippi?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Looks like an anti-cyclone (high pressure) system that will probably have big implications on the future track of Katrina. Looks pretty set in stone to me that Katrina will enter the gulf just given the current pattern.

"To My" untrained eye, it looked like a cyclonic circulation is trying to form beneath the massive upper High.

Thoughts?

I live well west of the mouth of the MS. We are having some pretty good thunderstorms rolling through right now. But, they been rolling through almost every afternoon around this time.

Skysummit, I just noticed we are about tied for posts. Now it is a race between us to see who gets to Cat 1 hurricane status first.

Looking at the visibles, I do not see any hint of any circulation with this system. I see lots of clashing boundaries along the LA coast and all of the lower clouds heading off to the ENE from South of the heavy convection and on East. Hopefully one of our Pro-mets can give a better explanation of what is going on, but attm I don't see anything of a tropical nature in this system.

Hey yea....you're right! That's odd. You'll probably beat me though because I have lots of work to do this week, and I don't think my wife will let me stay online most nights this week. She says I'm obsessed with the tropics...but isn't that why we're all here? I'm trying to tell her I'm not alone!

Area of convection is likely being enhanced by spokes of energy rotating around the E and S side of the upper level ridge over TX and stretched across the S US. Convection is being aided by boundary collisions and enhanced by the seabreeze. Any kind of tropical development is highly unlikely.

We have much bigger problems right now over the SE Bahamas!!
