Something is going on out there today! I'm not sure what it is, but a few clues: Since the backbone latency reports look fine, that means the slowdown is in machine response time. And I notice that Symantec had an intelligent update ready at noon pac time, very, very unusual. I imagine we'll be hearing more about this slowdown sometime later. But it is beginning to look as if a malware may be affecting servers.

It took 16 seconds for the Post a Reply Emoticons to all show up :(

At the same time I did a trace to my home page at my DSL ISP, all 15-20 ms. I did a trace for storm2K and all hops were in the 35-55 ms range, which is OK for this time of day and distance away.

My guess is the graphics are on a different computer which has either problems, or there is too much demand due to storing graphics which are being called up with every view by everybody.... If storm2k has different IPs within its system after the first access point for us, I suggest looking at that.

A bit of a lag for me too - and I've got dsl too.

And yes, there seems to be a lag everywhere I go, but the one here seems a bit longer. We're still talking pretty fast, just not as fast as usual.

Have y'all tried using one of those speed tests?

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Clear your cache first.

Mine's currently running at 2 megabits per second download which is close to normal. Must be server and/or router probs somewhere...

Thanks Shoshana. Mine was 4.5 megabits per second. I forgot the download time. 1.9 or something like that, I think. I guess that's good - it said Awesome compared to others in Texas.

I have several Firefox windows open, plus AIM, YIM, MSN, and MIRC. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Serious slowdown now...and I've been having these problems for a week. And sometimes the Category rank (Cat 1, Cat 2, etc...) doesn't show up, and sometimes emoticons and the orange things that say when there's a new post doesn't show up either, instead a red X shows up (which I know happens when IE can't load a picture). I meant to tell you this earlier in my earlier posts but forgot.

It's awful... I give up on trying to post advisories.

I should mention... it's only really bad during advisory times. Now it's much better than it was a half hour ago, so, it must just been everyone in Florida on at the same time, plus the rest of us freaks.

Very slow for me. I accidentally double posted because it still showed loading and it actually posted.

That's why I am giving up on the advisories... last night and at 11am, you would click "submit", it would do nothing for a minute, then click "submit" again and of course... it posts twice, and then it's a pain to delete because A. Someone has replied meaning you can't delete or B. It takes forever to load the page and forever to actually delete.

But right now the board is running much faster.I think that the admins did some work in the bandwitch and in the database. :)

Yup, faster now for me also. I'm on a T1/LAN and it felt like the old 14.4 dialup days.

It did the same thing yesterday too... it was terrible, leave for a few minutes, come back, and it's a whole new site, but it'll probably slow down again around 4:30pm EDT...

The board is VERY slow for me today too. It's been running a little slower than usual for the last couple of days, even with few on the boards.

Now it's just crawling.

Im in Tallahassee, FL with 5mbs Cable. It's not my pc and it's not my ISP and it's not my backbone.

Anyone that wants to rule some of this out for themselves should really check on dslreports.com

There are tons of tools to check your connection and PC out.

Unlike last time, this time the slowup is slow enough that the server "times out", and the window saying "Cannot find server" pops up instead of the page that I want to. Wouldn't ever believe that Storm2k's server would be overloaded...but today it happens.
