What's the mood.....
in SE Florida today? Anyone have a handle on it? Just wonder if the Home Depots, supermarkets, etc. are getting a rush. Actually, I hope so, 'cause Katrina looks very serious:

people here at school are slowly starting to talk about it... (staff not kids) but I am surprised that there is no discussion in the media (that I have seen) about the watches and warnings. Dade county's website shows nothing, nor does the water management district.. though I know its too earlyu for them to be updated.I think by 5pm we will see the full court press in the Miami media. Already Bryan Norcross is preempting the soaps from 12 to 1 to have an hour of coverage on 4. As a public school teacher, I want to know about the school closures

business as usual, had a couple peopleask me about it in the office. we need a hurricane warning before people here start dealing too much with it. this is the capitol of complacency based on near misses ever since floyd and media over hype for the last 5 to 7.

Checked it out and am not very impressed. Their hurricane Ivan storm recap shows that it made landfall on the MS/AL border.
Good 'ole CBS media geniuses. What would we ever do without the super-intelligent pool of talking heads to keep us dumb folk informed with what we really need to know.
I'm so glad that we can now use the internet to access NHC and other sites to get information and then process it for ourselves rather than waiting for Sue and Bob on the 5pm news to "tell us".

So far, it's business as usual here in Miami. There are several this to remember down here.
First, jlauderdale is right, everyone here is very complacent after the last 5-7 systems were hyped and never really affected us.
Second, most will not really prepare unless a hurricane warning goes in effect. Even then, some will not do anything
Hopefully this system will not be a Cat 1 before or at landfall here in Florida. Otherwise at lot will be caught off-guard.
