WELL, I SURE didn't expect THIS news today. Went to the sawbones for follow up on my skin cancers the sawbones has been removing, burning.....seems the last 2 were malignant melinoma (sp) to be really honest, I'm scared to death and a little down in the dumps today. A request if I might, say a little prayer for me would ya? He cut 2 more out today, off my right temple area, I've got a POUNDING headache now, the lid. is wearing off, so I'm off for a nap trying to get rid of it. You just NEVER know do ya?

Dennis

P/S......DO NOT be a smart asp like I "WAS" and WEAR SUNSCREEN, although, the areas were the melinomas are are protected by a hat, I wear a hat EVERY SINGLE day, ball cap most of the time and NOW, a wide brimmed floppy hat.........I look like a NERD wearing it but HEY, who CARES at this point in the game of life!

How about some compassion.....

Dennis - so very sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted as to what this means - stage, treatment, etc. I know how that word can be very frightening to hear. Your whole world gets completely turned upside down. See your doctor, ask a lot of questions, take notes, research the Internet. Be your own advocate. WebMD.com is a good site to start with.

Again, so very, very sorry to hear this. You don't even have to ask for prayers, they started the minute I began reading your topic.

Yessir...prayers from down at the bottom of your hill. Do your best not to project what MIGHT happen from here on out, and concentrate on the fact that you will wake up tomorrow and be the same great person you are today.

Thank you for your kind words, your words of encouragement and the prayers!! Just curious, has anyone here had a melinoma? I've tried not to let it get to me and I WILL NOT allow it to, however, it's the initial shock I guess that sent me for a tail spin......didn't know if I wanted to shed a tear, get angry and lash out.....it's sinking in now and the ONLY thing to do is to GET TOUGH and not let this get me DOWN!!

Dennis - a diagnosis like this a shock. I went thru many stages - shock, disbelief, why me, anger, shock again, rage, acceptance, crying fits, etc. After a week or more, I finally looked myself in the mirror and decided I would do all I could to fight it. And you will too. You just need to go thru of these stages first. And cry you will. When you least expect it. And the stages last, I slipped into them, from time to time. That first 6 months to a year is very rough, phsyically and emotionally.

I forgot to suggest you take Michelle along on all medical appts. I was glad later I had Jim with me. He remembered things I swear I hadn't heard the doctor say (I was still in shock mode). You need a spouse/relative/close friend with you, to help you remember all that you're told. And they might even think of a question, you would have, but you are still trying to grasp what is happening. Write it all down too. Start a folder right now.

And finally, researching on the Internet or at your local library is a very good idea.

You got 'em brother! I'm so sorry Dennis!

BTW, it's OKAY to let "it" get to you. You're human and you're scared. I know that men have this thing about getting emotional and showing their pain, but IT IS HEALTHY!!!

Prayers and positive vibes comin' your way, my friend!

My husband (a surveyor for 35 years.....and a red-head) has battled skin cancer for quite a while now. He has had several melanoma.....and it IS scary! He also has Lymphocytic Leukemia.....perhaps from ignoring what the sun was doing to him. It is NOT something to mess around with!

A couple years back, he had skin from the upper arm grafted under the l. eye, to replace a large area that had to be removed because of melanoma. We're going again first week of Sept.....many of the burned-off areas are acting up again. You take care, Dennis......p

Thanks lil' sis.......ya know, I show my emotions and I'm NOT ashamed of it either! My father was/still is of the OLD school, "Men don't cry, BUCK IT UP....DEAL with IT!" attitude.....I swore that when I became a father that I would NOT treat my son the same way and I didn't, I've told my son that it's OK to cry, just don't do it as much as SOME women DO "LOL!"

Absouletly Mary, Michelle goes with me MOST of the time unless it's for my pain meds, GREAT advice too, thanks

Dennis,

I know several people here that are dealing with melanoma. I am sending super-charged prayers your way from (not so) sunny Florida. Take care.
