None of my business since I don't live in FL, but isn't it pretty pointless to make them go to school for 3 1/2 hrs? I remember half days, we never did anything constructive during them. If I was a parent down there, no way I'd go through the trouble of getting them there.

If Florida school regulations are anything like Alabama's then they will attend a half day in order to get that day in. Schools have to be in session a certain number of days by state law. I know that here we've dismissed at 11:00 or 11:30 in order to get that day counted as a day of school. Also, we've started school a couple hours late if weather necessitated it. Keep in mind, if a system doesn't have weather days included in their school calendar, then all missed days must be made up.

Middle schools dismiss at 1:15pm. If you ask me this is completely stupid. 1. There is no point in going to school for such a short time in the first place. 2. It's only smarter and more sensible to take the whol day off. Sorry for being angry but I just disagree.

When I was in middle school, we had an early dismissal day every 9 weeks or so(right before a holiday, weather day, etc.)... it counted as a whole day so we got an extra 2 hours off. As long as you eat lunch, I think it's considered a whole day and therefore you don't have to make it up.

I loved it. :D

This sets actually a dangerous precedent. The storm had increased in forward speed dramatically the last few hours and may landfall during the day tomorrow around 3-4.

Please show me a radar where you can see any kind of a speed up. Unless youre talking about tropical storm Mawar in the west pacific, I don't buy it.

Broward Schools

#12 Postby pajaraff » Thu Aug 25, 2005 7:56 am

Our schools in Broward County are closed Thurs and Fri. Thurs. was a scheduled 1/2 day anyway. I think they made a good decision on the Thurs. closure...It's getting a bit crazy here

Wish us luck!!!

I'm in Palm Beach County so we have a half day today. I sent my kids to school....they didn't mind going. I think things will be OK for them.
