Joke's on ME !!!

#1 Postby petal*pusher » Wed Aug 24, 2005 9:43 pm

I have one garden close to the house that was ignored last summer....then again THIS summer.....mostly because those little wrens kept their little house on the arbor filled with little ones. The birdfeeders also go up out there early fall until spring. I'm used to a ton of seeds falling and germinating....in fact, I love the borage that mysteriously turns up there!

Anyway, there are often some unusual things that come up.....including this weed that grew incredably fast this summer! It looked like some kind of sunflower, so I let it grow....and grow....and grow....and GROW!!

We watched it leaf out nicely (still looked like a sunflower).....even the hummers liked to perch in it.....and I couldn't wait for those blossoms to begin to open! Today, I realized the blossoms were ALREADY there! Here's a picture of the blossoms.....

We looked it up....it's a Giant Ragweed !! ARGH!! Never seen this particular ragweed in this area....and to assure I never do, had my son get it out of there! Here's a pic of ME and that H-U-G-E fella!

I propped it up to my cedar setee....it is SO big!

always learning....always learning....always learning....p

Hey, petal*pusher --

How fortunate you are NOT to be allergic to ragweed! This is the time of year I was always in agony when I lived in suburban Chicago.

P.S. Great pix! :D

Oh, petal - Achooooo!!! LOL, I've let things come up in my gardens,
before, just to see what they were....and, yes....weeds! Sometimes, I
actually get trees - I have a pine and a blue spruce coming up in the
flower garden by the carport, right now - I've almost convinced my
big brother that they will be ready for him to plant, in a month or so...
