Would that landfall point be Hollywood?

The center is, but the eye itself is 15-20 miles in diameter.

I know the center of the eye isnt but the western edge of the eye is pushing on

the center of the eye has a bit to go.... at its frances like pace.

thats why the post title doesnt say "Katrina has made landfall"

Hm, he's been calling the "center" the eye thus far, not really calling the whole area the eye.

So landfall is when the center of the circulation reaches land and not part of the eyewall?

Just another FYI, Norcross mentioned something about the "eye like feature" but said no no no, the eye is still off shore.

I'd pick up the slack and do it myself, but I'm at work. Believe you me, I'll be google earthing the **** out of this storm come Sunday a la mtm4319 if necessary (especially if she hits the FL Big Bend and Tallahassee, my hometown).

amazing. I live in the Pembroke Pines/Miramar area which is right along the 26N Broward/Dade border line and if Katrina keeps moving in the direction it currently is, then the center of the storm could pass right over my house much like Irene did in 1999. I was outside just not 5 minutes ago and winds were sustained at 36mph with gusts to 45mph.

I was taking a nap that unfortunately lasted longer than I wanted to. :P

It looks like the eye is over Windtalker's house just north of Pembroke Pines.

Edit: If NHC says the center is at 25.9 (I didn't catch that before), then it's currently in the area of x-y-no. I also have to consider the margin of human error in making these Google Earth overlays, so it could be off by a few miles.

The city of Miami is just missing the eyewall right now, but I imagine they'll get some of it in the next few hours.

Very cool MTM - thanks for that graphic - really adds a personal touch to what some of our members are experiencing!! Some of them, I'd imagine, are probably without power about now...
