WOW! Back side just came in with a vengeance ... much, much stronger than anthing I had on the front side of the eye.

Unfortunately, too dark out there for pictures to come out.

Urk ... big power hit ... may not be online for long.

Our Orlando news stations have a bit of video coming in from their reporters that went down south, and there are a LOT of very big trees down and power poles snapped in half in the Ft Lauderdale area. Root bases of some trees are in the 10-12 ft diameter range. I don't recall any Cat 1's causing this kind of tree damage in my 50 years of living here.

Hope you guys are all safe and keep your power.

Large band far from center went through lower keys, upper keys have been relatively quiet. Got very dark early but wind hasn't picked up and rain is spotty. We may not get anything until the center is at the west coast and the tail slaps us.

But man, the south side -- the strong reds are all the way to Florida city, the very southern edge of the warning zone.

CBS4 just showed roofs ripped off an hotel and a home. Also reporting a roof off of a chart.

95 MPH at Virginia Key

Reports of substantial damage at Crandon Marina. Boats sinking, crashing against each other. Just did a live report via phone on CBS4. Woman interviewed said the damage is worse than Andrew.

They just said that Ft. Lauderdale had a 92mph gust.

Being Miami stations, they're all over the Miami stuff. Regrettably, Ft. Lauderdale is the red-headed stepchild between the WPB and Miami parents and gets little attention.

I'm sure that is quite possible in the areas she is in which I presume are North of Andrews landfall area.

Nothing more than just a little bit of wind and rain up here in Port St. Lucie. Well North of the landfall location. I feel for all of you in Broward and Dade. I know what it's like. The eyes of Frances and Jeanne both went right over my home. Good luck and our prayers are with you.

Just got off the phone with a friend in Pompano on Federal Hwy. She has been without power since 4PM. Her roof is leaking ( 3rd floor of 3-story condo), however, she never completely closed her hurricane shutters....likes the nice breeze.

She did notice the recent aqua (her favorite color) flashes, that I assume might be trasformers blowing. Sorry, but my friends tend to be pretty blasse' about anything hurricane related. If I weren't so far away (Michigan), I would bash them up-side the head.

On the other hand, my brother in Cape Coral reports that the winds are just starting to pick up and that he is ready with all but a couple of his shutters already in place. He learned a great deal from a close call with Charlie last year.

Still don't know what to make of this one. An initial report so details still coming in...Tony Segreto (can't remember network) reports that "the 97th avenue flyover bridge has collapsed". I believe it is under construction.

I also think the NHC got the eye, or very close to it.

Here in North Palm Beach one of Katrina's northern bands seems to be training over us...we're getting a good amount of rain. Wind is minimal, but we are having a few gusts here and there. I hope everyone in Ft. Lauderdale and south is doing OK....
