This storm started on August 14th as it was made tropical depression 10. This storm fighted shear and dry air for days. This storm had a mission I can see now. It was renamed tropical depression 12. These are the kinds of systems that can sneak up on you.

IMO, a further SW path does two things:
1. Will be stronger in Gulf. Won't weaken as much due to passing over less land and heading toward very warm water.
2. Will cause a more easterly track. More SW motion means less westerly longitude once trough janks on her and starts sending her north and eventually NE later this weekend. This is what the GFDL is now showing on its latest run, anyway.
