I have a friend in Marathon that was totally not expecting this. I know the keys were under a TS watch / warning, but it is starting to look like they may get hit with some sustained hurricane force winds as this thing exits the coast.

Hope everything is ok down there.

Too late to do anything about my boat, and I'm not one of those who are going to go driving over to the Marina while this is still going on...

should a special weather statement be issued....I'm getting nervous about the FL Keys...

it appears that the High is still pushing hard as evident by the "squishing" we are seeing on the top of Katrina....and the fact that the strongest action is still on the south side of the center....

That "squishing" will end when Katrina busts out over the 92 degree GOM SST's...

Recurve, anything on your local TV about the situation further down the Keys?

I think it will take a few hours for the storm to get used to it again. Then it will go boom. It is intering another enviroment right now(Good one).

Also because this hit Major citys. I expect her price tag to be higher then Dennis.

The Keys get their local TV from Miami.

Right, we aren't seeing any specific Keys reports, just the Miami TV broadcasts. I still have most of my cable channels.

I'll see if I can get one of the Keys FM stations.

The station in Big Pine Key is still broadcasting music -- they are one of the main news stations down there, so I'd expect something if it was getting bad...they may not have counted on any effects though.

Here is their page, you can hear them streaming on the net:

I'll bet they wish they had evacuated the Keys:

Hey what's that big black blob in the center?

INTENSE rain and wind. Probably the heaviest rain you'll ever see...

Thanks for concerns.

1:30, power still on in Key Largo, possible hurricane force gusts, definitely tropical storm force.

If you have friends family or property down here, damage to trees will be the main effect. Structures are pretty sound, we've had a strong building code for a long time. Waterspouts could cause isolated damage.

There's been some scary sounding winds, but we won't have the flooding problems of Miami and Fort Lauderdale, except maybe Old Town in Key West.

Use the NWS site for updates too:
