i realize that afm......but to just throw it out as "this will happen", when its something that extreme is entertainment, not science...and it bugs me.
and its not just that hes making this particular headline with katrina, its ALWAYS something hugely dramatic, consistently.
dennis was going to new orleans and then DENVER.

He said it COULD get to 910, and that he thinks it's going to be cat 4. He actually got the southwest turn right from early yesterday, said it would head for the water and that it would lose very little, if anything, over land. He got that correct so far, and there's nothing that says this couldn't hit 910.

Don't be so sure. I don't think it will get to 910...but I would not be at all shocked to see 920-930. I think it will bottom out at about 930-940...but any lower would no surprise me.
Yeah, I agree. I'm expecting it to get to the middle to upper end of the Cat 3 range, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a Cat 4. Conditions look right, and it kept its structure remarkably well traversing Florida.

Definitely some subscription fetchin. I don't see 910mb. But if AFM's 930-940 verifies, look out Florida. More of you will be moving than ever before. I'll give anyone 5 cents on the dollar for your paid-in-full residence.
The thing that drives me nuts is if FL gets a very large Cat 3 or Cat 4, the insurance rates will drive my mortgage up again to the tune of another $100 a month. Ugh.

Everybody in hurricane-prone areas is paying more. The insurance companies are just assuming that your day will come, too.

Agree, what is the GFDL saying now.TPACane04 wrote:I have an uneasy feeling that the North GOM is looking at a sub-930....910 would almost Certainly be a Cat 5 if it ever happened...you are talking Camille range now.
I want to see what the models do with Katrina later today (18z/0z) with her continued pressure drops and strength...

I have a strong feeling we are witnessing a historic hurricane. I went to work for 3 hours this morning, and came home to find that Katrina went from 70 to 100 m.p.h. in that time. Katrina has been like a freight train, barely missing a beat even though she went over land, as if she had a homing instinct to get to the water so she could grow. I have anticipated such a storm since last year's season, and am just spellbound by her growth. It will be difficult to get anything done for the next few days, other than reading these boards and watching the news.

That is so true. I work from home and I've spent basically the last 3 days just surfing the board and doing the bare minimum of work. I'm glad it's going to hit on a weekend so I won't have to worry about work during landfall.

I think 910MB is a tad is a very overated forecast from Joe B.Air Force Met wrote:djtil wrote:more ridiculous hootin and hollerin

You know if this does bomb AFM...I think Elysium should be re-instated. He did call it eventhough as far fetched as it was back then with X-TD10....
