Unusual Request for Help

#1 Postby MWatkins » Fri Aug 26, 2005 6:39 pm

Hey,

I have an unusual request. I am heading up to the Gulf Coast to help out with Mark Sudduth and the HLP for this landfall.

I will be meeting Mark up in Lake City FL tomorrow around mid day as he makes his way up from Naples...and I need a safe place to leave my car.

Does anyone who lives in that general area have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

It's probably too far out of your way, but is Paddock Mall in Ocala a possibility? If you are taking 95 to 10, you will probably not want to do this. But if you take the turnpike to 75, maybe you guys could meet there instead of Lake City? It's fairly close to the interstate.

In Lake City, right on 90, just east of the interstate, there is a Walmart Super Center. The parking lot is very large, lighted, and the store is open 24 hours. I think that would be very safe. No threat of towing either, I wouldn't think.

Don't forget fully gassed up with some of that low-price Wal-Mart / Murphy USA gasoline.

Mike,

If things get hairy here and you guys decide to come to the GNO area, drop me a PM. I'm working on shipping out the old lady and the kids.

Yo.

Better yet, both of you take 27N in Ocala, which turns into 19/98 and will dump you off in Tallahassee at 10. You will cut your mileage down, then you can leave it in long term parking lot at the airport in T-hassee. That would be the easiest and safest. I wouldnt leave it in any mall, as there is a chance it will be towed. That is what I would do.

Guys, depending on the track I might be staying in my house on the beach in Biloxi.... you guys are welcomed to film from the Biloxi beach front at my house... I can't guarantee your safety of course... and I'll probably not stay if I'm going to be in the eye wall of a Cat 4.... for everything else I'll stay on the beach... I'm 20 feet above sea level... Cat 4 can't touch that... Camille put 22 feet on the beach where I live... picture of my house in the hurricane preparations forum.. I built it and have the utmost confidence in its structure... two large Oaks in the front yard to worry me some what if they fall on it

send me a PM if you need my phone number ...

Another option would be to leave it at a reputable truck stop, Flying J, Pilot, 76 or Truckstops of America. There is parking for automobiles and RV's and they do not mess with you. Keep in mind, when the track gets a little better etched in stone, there will be many other vehicles in the lots escaping the storm. They have showers, restaraunts ect., so they are popular places for evacuee's. I-10 and 75 interchange is a major truck route, so there will be one there, or close by.

Steve, fwiw.... I'm thinking the trends will continue west and NO might just end up getting this thing... I would expect the 11 pm to shift even farther to the west.... SE LA might be getting more than anyone ever thought... still early.... but

I know you want a good one, but this one might not be one to mess with. Whatever you decide, be safe man, be safe.

If I were going to leave my car it would proably be at a hospital.

Lake City Medical Center is open 24 hours a day, map shows it about 2.2 miles East of 75 on Hiway 90. Park in the area where the ER is and inform the hospital staff in ER what is happening. As long as you are not blocking traffic or taking up an ER parking space they shouldn't bother you. Hospitals usually have the added advantage of 24 hour security personell.
