She did but is declaring the state of emergency just in case. I think the feces will hit the air mover tomorrow if the models shift west again or even stay the same.

If the track is pointing at New Orleans in the morning... things are gonna be hitting the fan.

If this westerly motion continues we may see the models go even further west.Just a hunch.

Bob Breck (NOLA met) says if it has not yet begun its northerly turn tomorrow by lunch time, we have a problem. Hopefully, it can just continue going into Mexico or something....I know they don't need it, but there's a lot less population there.

As of a few minutes ago here is the NHC 8pm position Still WSW:

AT 8 PM EDT...0000Z...THE EYE OF HURRICANE KATRINA WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 24.7 NORTH... LONGITUDE 83.3 WEST OR ABOUT 100
MILES... WEST OF KEY WEST FLORIDA.

KATRINA CONTINUES TO MOVE TOWARD THE WEST-SOUTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH.
THIS MOTION IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE THIS EVENING. A GRADUAL TURN
TOWARD THE WEST IS EXPECTED ON SATURDAY.

I am anxious to see the new models at 9pm. The GFDL & GFS were from 2pm and look where they are. With this WSW motion they may end up much further west. This is a guess only.
