If Mexicans send $16 Billion home every year, that represents about 0.015% of our annual GDP. Insignificant. They add far more than that to our GDP by working for such low wages.

The low wages only benefit the greedy business owners who hire (and often exploit) illegals. There's a reason why we have the Fair Labor Standards Act and it's not because we want the business owners to flout it by hiring those who by their immigration status are not protected by it. There are other factors involved in the illegal immigration problem not the least of which being that if you have no controls on immigration you have no controls on who gets in. There is also another factor. Border Security is MANDATED by the Constitution and the failure of elected officials to properly secure the borders is a violation of their oaths of office. Important to note that 30% of prison inmates in AZ prisons for crimes committed in this state are illegals so not all of them are here for finding a better life through finding a job-a goodly number are here for less savory reasons. Most members of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang of terrorists thugs which has been infiltrating the US are illegals as well. The Governors of AZ and NM as well as Sonora and Chihuahua think the problem is serious enough to declare emergencies so there must really be a problem.
