Not written in stone-NHC has landfall at Grand Isle, LA

#1 Postby cajungal » Sat Aug 27, 2005 10:35 am

It is not written in stone by any means. Could shift again. But NHC now has landfall right around Grand Isle, LA. Not good at all.

If a cat 4 or 5 hurricane made a direct hit at Grand Isle, there would no longer by an "isle", literally it would be gone.

Doesn't it seem surreal? Could this finally be happening?

This storm has had New Orleans written all over it since it started the WSW motion at 26 N.

Channel 6 New Orleans News. It could still shift, though. So don't panic. I still have a feeling it may give us a scare, but shift east to MS. But, still get ready and prepare to leave. Better to be safe than sorry. I got to work today from 12-9. And I won't be able to find a thing out until then! Anything can change in that time frame.

With every passing hour this storm is looking more and more as the highest risk hurricane to ever threaten the US.

I agree. Pressure is still dropping and its slowly getting its act together. More of a threat than Ivan.

Filled up with gas yesterday.

Last major direct hit for Grand Isle was Betsy.

We vacation there each summer. Each summer I wonder if we will have a place to return the next.

I agree - especially given the fact that the effects of this storm will not only be confined to the landfall area's devastation; widespread/nationwide economic impacts will probably make this the costliest hurricane ever to strike the United States.

Advisory #17 11amEDT: http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/atcf_web/atcfwb/images/al122005.gif

Notice upper right legend, center 4 nautical miles from New Orleans.

While I sure can't wish this storm on anyone, I pray it does shift some other direction. Can't imagine implications for SE LA and New Orleans if it hits there as currently predicted. PLEASE make all preparations to get away from this storm if you are even possily in its path!!!

You ever saw the documentary about "Hurricane Julia" Hurricane Julia is a ficticious storm that never happened. But, they just showed the documentary a few months back on FOX. Showing a Cat 4 Hurricane Julia making a direct hit on Port Fourchon and how it would take a toll on the oil and gas industry. All I could say was wow. I was speechless.

I usually go to Grand Isle every summer myself. This summer I never made it there. My last trip was late May last year. I live an hour and half drive away, because the road there is so long, sometimes it feels like you are at the end of the world.

I agree I'm thinking Bilouxi/Gulfport myself but that's still pretty darn close to New Orleans. Has any been able to get this site euler.atmos.colostate.edu/~vigh/guidance/ to load the site sure picked a bad time to go down. Or does anybody know another place to get such a large number of early-track guidance models. No other site seems to have such a selection.
