HURRICANE WATCH AT 10AM

#1 Postby rockyman » Sat Aug 27, 2005 9:34 am

From the NHC Marine adv

at 10 am CDT...1500z...a Hurricane Watch is in effect for the
southeastern coast of Louisiana east of Morgan City to the mouth of
the Pearl River...including metropolitan New Orleans and Lake
Ponchartrain. A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions
are possible within the watch area...generally within 36 hours.

A Hurricane Watch will likely be required for other portions of the
northern Gulf Coast later today or tonight. Interests in this area
should monitor the progress of Katrina.

It's being issued early so they can start evacuation plans in New Orleans.

Margaret Orr just said on WDSU that they will be broadening the hurricane watch area later today (which would support the "Get out of NOLA NOW" reasoning behind the small, early watch area).

Well, everybody's got to dislike someone... Certainly, I like certain OCMs better than others - with that, I'll agree.

As for the watch area - here on the MS coast, folks are STILL saying it's no big deal since it's only going to hit New Orleans... I believe a watch may be what it's gonna take to get them in gear. Just got back from Lowes, and it was "reletively" peaceful. Busier than a normal Saturday morning, but not going CRAZY!!
