Is this the front/trof that is supposed to erode the ridge? What if it moves east quickly? Wont it drop a trailing trof to guide the storm to the NE. Will this happen before landfall?
Why or why not? Anyone?
What about this cold front turning Katrina more to the east?

There is a possibility that there will be a narrow ridge squeezed between Katrina and the trough that will delay the northerly turn.
This sometimes happens with troughs that are not digging fast.
I'm basing this on the water vapor imagery where you can see the trough flattening out a little from west to east.
A digging front that will get down into the gulf may develop later but I don't see it yet.
I doubt the models will be pointing toward a landfall east of NOLA again.
