Yes, things will get very interesting soon. The EWRC didn't weaken Katrina. All that's left now is the end of that EWRC. And strengthening.

I'd say a weak cat 4 by the time midnight comes around, or it may not hit cat 4 status until the early morning hours. Eyewall replacement cycles take time.

but to be honest with you, it's better if it strengthens sooner because they say there's a good cance of ANOTHER eyewall replacement cycle tomorrow night or early Monday which would weaken it a bit more before it hits land, so let's get the strengthening out of the way, because historically, hurricanes have a hard time maintainting cat 4/cat 5 status over a certain chunk of time

Not only is it getting stronger but it's also getting much bigger in size. It's turning into a monster.

Katrina is becoming a thing of beauty. This is not one of those tiny tornado-canes... (which i cant stand by the way. I'm tired of seeing 935 mb storms that are about 15 miles wide).

Katrina has gerth. She has a sort of typhoon look to her... plenty of great structure has been put in place during a day of eye wall cycles.

The width of her wind field has doubled. Heck, big squalls are pushing onshore in the Tampa area again, even though she is far west of there.

This one is going to do a lot of damage over a large area. This storm has Mitch like potential... and Mitch was tremendous...

Mitch was also unpredictable...

I was thinking the same thing. Katrina's looking very large. 45 miles of hurricane force winds can impact a lot of real estate.

I also agree. Everything I have heard in the last couple hours says she's re-organizing and approaching a stage of development. I would not be surprised to see Cat 4 by midnight.....most likely by the morning though.

Amazing to think that the wave now approaching the Lesser Antilles may develop at least somewhat as well. I've noticed that the wave has gotten much better organized and is developing some good convection.

I can't believe how things are picking up...

Who else notices this about the wave?

Sorry if I am a bit off the topic...

Everyone I know in the Caribbean has noticed, but right now we are thinking about Katrina and praying for a miracle. Many of us have friends and family throughout the entire Gulf Coast (and beyond) so...we'll worry about 90L when it seems we might need to. Not yet.
