We are heading out at 3-4am, have reservations in Memphis... will let the contraflow get well established and the panic seekers out of the way before going.
What a glorious experience doing this with a 35.5 week pregnant wife, right at ground zero - no option but to leave. Fortunately the hotel we have in Memphis is a block away from a NICU-enabled Hospital in case she goes into early labor, but the baby is full-term (4.75-5 lbs) so we will fare ok if the panic/stress/etc sends her into early labor.
Of all the years to have a Hurricane X threat, it had to be this one!!!

Waitng for the traffic to subside
We live in Uptown New Orleans. This will be the first time we have even considered evacuating. Unfortunatley, we are leaving some loved ones behind. They remember Betsy well and believe they will be fine. I am afraid they are sadly mistaken. Leaving around 3 am for Dallas.
ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING RIDING THIS ONE OUT SHOULD THINK TWICE ESPECIALLY PEOPLE ON THE NORTH SHORE. I just pray we have a home to return to. New Orleans is a great city with great people. They don't deserve to be homeless.

Sean good to hear from, I m keeping my thoughts and prayers with all my friends today. I have never been so scared from a storm, never. I had a feeling this one would sneak up on us, it did.
I think Gov. Blanco did a great job in getting the balling rolling on the evacuations by declaring a state of emergency yesterday.
