I think the hurricane warning should extend to Destin. If Katrina follows the eastern half of that cone towards AL/FL panhandle winds will be a lot stronger than T.S force.

Do you honestly think that the warning would cover all of the watch area? That would include all the way westward to Intracoastal City, LA. Comments?

Considering how large the circulation of Kat is growing to, there will be a large area of warning to be issued. I would think from central La to Ms/Al border.....MGC

That is quite a large area for a warning - waiting to see.

Max Mayfield says this is like Opal:

Mayfield also warned people not to focus on the eye of the storm, as atmospheric conditions are perfect for Katrina's intensity to stretch far to the east and west of its eye.

"This thing is like Hurricane Opal," he said, referring to a huge 1995 hurricane that hit the Florida panhandle as a Category 3 storm. "We're seeing 12-foot seas along the Louisiana coast already."

So the Hurricane Watch is extended farther east now, according to the following excerpt from the NHC:

ALSO AT 10 PM CDT...0300Z...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING AND A HURRICANE
WATCH HAVE BEEN ISSUED FROM THE ALABAMA/FLORIDA BORDER EASTWARD TO
DESTIN FLORIDA...

It may in time be upgraded to a Hurricane Warning as far east as Destin.

OF COURSE..... this is just my humble opinion and should not be taken seriously by anyone reading this forum.

Only that the size of the circulation has expanded... the track is the same.

In the last few frames of this latest loop, the convection is shriking a bit and the eye looks really ragged. This is behaving really stranging, but I'm glad the convection is shrinking somewhat.
