New Orleans MAYOR "MADATORY EVACS. AFTER LEGAL OKAY&quo
he said he'll announce a mandatory evac as soon as he can get legal clearance. Most likely in the Morning. (FIRST IN NOLA HISTORY!) Nagin Said he Spoke with NHC Directly Just Before 10PM and the NHC said NOLA in the City Will most likely see Winds EXCEEDEING 145MPH. JUST said it LIVE on air on WWL! He seemed in shock and said NOW's the time and PLEASE leave there will only be a couple of SAFE shelter such as the Dome and it may be weeks before the get power and water out.

agreed....I am curious what the legal ramifications would be to order it now....we are talking about the lives of thousands of people....
Its up to the people IMO to make the final decision right? A voluntary evacuation with strong urges to leave are rights to be concerned.... then the mayor says he is leaving??? That means get the hell out lol.... with or without a mandatory evac. Can't Blanco override a make a temp law???

I cannot believe this lady said she is going to be on her shrimp boat, and she needs to be there in case it gets untied. another man stated he is going to eat his shrimp and stay. Life is already like a bubble, you never know when your time will be to go, but i believe you can make decisions to bring death on quicker.

I agree. If people need a mandatory evac to see the obvious, then shame on them. Besides, a mandatory evac won't mean squat for those who don't have the means or unable to leave. Unfortunately, this could be one of those every man for himself situations. If peeps can leave, then they should NOT BE WAITING TO BE FORCED TO.

You know, the folks that live in New Orleans dance to a different drummer.
They always have and always will.
If there is a city that is most vulnerable to a hurricane due to the fact that most of the populace will not listen to warnings, that city is New Orleans. Two of my three children were born in South Louisiana and those are the two that DO NOT listen to me....
NOLA has dodged the bullet more than once, but like someone said earlier, you never know when or where the next terrorist bombing will hit.
Myself, I think this hurricane will be like many others and will take that right turn, sparing the city...
BUT DON'T LISTEN TO ME!!!! GET OUT AND GET OUT NOW!!!!
