The weird thing is the answer is no. One other thing:
If the city calls for a mandatory evacuation and by some miracle the city is spared, then there would unfortunately be a class action suit of people who were forced to leave the city (if they planned to or not) suing the city for the costs of evacuation (travel, lodging, etc). Such is the world.

They are just doing what their officials are telling them..

New Orleans is getting this storm... whether to the east or the west.... effects will be felt in New Orleans most likely. It might not be total devestation or it may. This is just too close of a call tot ake a chance in New Orleans. Thats my personal opinion. If they say run, don't walk... RUN!

This is really bad. I picked up a satellite feed earlier where many were saying they are going to wait til Sunday morning and look at the latest forecasts before making their decision.
They will wake up in four or five hours from now, see what's bearing down on them and start to panic. The panic will be contagious. The gas stations on the way will run out of gas if they have not already and you will only get as far as the gas in your tank or until vehicles start to break down on the roads.
By waiting too long many might of sealed their own fate. Looking at the modeling information I would of gotten out already 24 hours ago. IT might now be too late for many of them. May God have mercy on them.

Some of the posts on this thread do not border on irresponsible, they are irresponsible to the extreme.
I suggest that those who obsess about politics at a time when lives are in that balance due to their choices within the next 18-24 hours suspend their politiical commentary at least until after landfall of this storm.
We have no useful outlet for those who want to politicize the choices that people are making at the current time, and those of you who wish to obscure the situation with the remarks that you are making should be deeply ashamed.
What on earth is wrong with you?

Mayor Nagin, a good man IMHO, stated that the legalaties were
trying to not force evacuations of hospitals and hotels - he's got
lawyers trying to work a clause for that in, and in the morning,
New Orleans may very well have its first ever mandated evauation.
He was rather emphatic about his chat with Max Mayfield.
