according to someone here last night they were saying the city could be held responsible for evacuating and it doesn't hit there - seems laswyers are already ready with class action lawsuits IF he orders mandatory evac and it misses.

Blame Katrina... not the mayor. Would you rather not evacuate and have thousands drown??? I think not... the lawsuits would, rightfully so, be much worse.

Katrina's 12mph motion is twice as fast as the car on the I-10.

He is doing it now due to a conference call he had with the National Hurricane Center last night. He did call for a voluntary evacuation yesterday afternoon.

What you need to realize is there are LEGEL aspects that need to be in place before a mandatory evacation can be called for.

The mayor is legally required to have enough shelters if he orders a mandatory evacuation. They evidently don't have enough shelters for anything above Cat2 or Cat3.

yeah it's really nuts.....it's not safe to have any shelters in the city....the city is going to be UNDERWATER.
They were directing people to shelters in Alexandria and further north

This is a classic worst case scenario of people depending too much on government's self serving corporate interests and expecting them to actually look out for their better interests of the masses.

Too little, too late, and time to stay home and pray if your in Nola. :(
