I am watching WDSU, the contraflow is working and I-10 traffic is moving well (1:30 a.m. CDT Sunday). If you haven't left, don't worry about getting caught in a traffic jam -- the highway is flowing and you can leave and get out at a good pace.

Please be careful and stay safe!

People will get hurt in the evacuation...
This is a little late.
Preservation of property, at this point, should be secondary.
(because it may be irrelevant and efforts may be in vain)
Prayers are with everyone.
Please be as patient as possible. Please don't panic, but act immediately.
Just as long as you are out of flood zones, and in sturdy shelter, you should be alright.
Don't look back, just consider the safety of your family and fellow citizens.

EVACUATION CENTER ALONG I 10

#49 Postby WhiteShirt » Sun Aug 28, 2005 4:36 pm

EVACUATION CENTER ALONG I 10
The Mont Belvieu, Texas Senior Center is open for evacuees. Coming from Louisiana, get off I 10 at marker 800 and take a right on 3180 (also known as Eagle Drive). A couple of miles down the road and just after the traffic light, the center is on the left. There are other shelters in the area when that one is filled. The number for the Mont Belvieu police dept for more information is 281-576-2417.

LOUISIANA EMERGENCY RESPONSE OFFICIALS ARE NOT ALLOWING RESIDENTS TO
RETURN TO SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AT THIS TIME. EVACUEES FROM SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA INCLUDING THE NEW ORLEANS REGION NEED TO REMAIN WHERE THEY
ARE SHELTERED NOW. IF ANY EVACUEES NEEDS SHELTER THEY SHOULD STOP AT
ONE OF THE FOLLOWING EMERGENCY SHELTER INFORMATION POINTS.

ON LA 1 AT THE PARAGON CASINO NEAR MARKSVILLE.
ON US 71 AT THE MED EXPRESS OFFICE NEAR ALEXANDRIA.
EXIT 53 ON I-49 AT SAMMY'S TRUCK STOP NEAR BUNKIE.

OFFICIALS WILL NOTIFY RESIDENTS WHEN IT IS SAFE TO RETURN TO
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA.

Please Heed these warnings, NO is a disaster area right now, I'm going to go on a limb here and say that this IS worse than Camielle, Andrew, MOST defentaly worse than Charley..... The pictures on WDSU are speechless.
