Stop and think about the little people before New Orleans

#1 Postby CYCLONE MIKE » Sun Aug 28, 2005 8:40 pm

We need to stop for a minute and put in a good word for all of the people in the nice little towns along the LA coast south of New Orleans. If the current track holds our only inhabited barrier island Grand Isle will be slaughtered. Along with Port Fourchon, Leeville, and Golden Meadow along with many others. They bring tons of money into the state every year with their massive fishing industry. I know all of the attention is on New Orleans, but these towns will get the first blow, and who knows what will be left as all of that area is also at or below sea level. Good luck guys, hope to hear from ya'll soon.

I've heard everyone except for 7 has evacuated from Grand Isle, they don't have a chance.

They got 7 people riding it out on Grand Isle, I heard. That is just crazy. They must not value their lives much. We must keep New Orleans in our prayers. But, don't forget to include the little towns below New Orleans. Cut Off, Larose, Golden Meadow, Thibodaux, Raceland, Houma, etc..

What worries me is the possibility of those places being totally wiped off the map.. Is that possible? Below sea level, storm surge....Scary

Could you imagine what the coastline will look like after this is all done with? The Gulf could very well be in my backyard.

Grand Isle, unlike midcity New Orleans, is not below sea level; it's an island, a remnant of a former delta built up when the Mississippi channel was in Bayou Lafouche.

Still, it could be washed over, unless the north offshore wind helps lessen surge there.

Oh us locals do ....

It's the media that forgets about the small towns. We been drinking and talking about Grande Isle all night long. Venice is another one that looks like it may meet the eye of Katrina.

We also hope all from Morgan City and Houma make it through safely if they stayed. I just hope those in danger have made it to safer grounds.
