Question about speed

Often, storms accelerate as they move north toward the gulf coast. Katrina has slowed from 13 to 11 miles per hour. Will this change in forward speed affect the track much? If so or if not, how and why??

I think it slowed down a bit because it's making a gradual turn... usually when storms turn they will slow down a bit, only to speed up again after they are done.

I don't think it affects the track much... if at all, certainly not by more than a few miles.

At 11:00 am its down to 9 miles per hour? Does this mean anything for the track?? I'm guessing not because the forcasted track didn't really change and no one is willing to take the time to answer my question.

I give up now... I don't think I've seen a northward moving major hurricane slow down as it approaches the coast.

Still... it can't affect the track much... just slow it down.

It seems odd to me as well. None of the experts seem to be focusing on it. I thought it would have sped up a little. :eek:
