EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
SUPER HURRICANE KATRINA
NJN WEATHER CENTER
1115 PM SUN AUG 28TH 2005

Amateurs and pros alike are watching helplessly as a Category 5 monster named Katrina is baring down on Louisiana, and getting ready to unleash her fury. Some of the outer rain bands are already affecting the coast and beginning to produce tropical storm force winds.

Preparations should have already been completed. If not.. you are probably way too late. Katrina should be making landfall in less than a day, with the probability of her still being a Category 5.

Katrina is under incredibly good conditions, no shear.. warm waters, and no upwelling from past storms have helped allow her quickly grow into a monster.

I will even go out on a limb and say she may even gain some slight strength over Lake Ponchatrain, if she crosses over it before possibly destroying New Orleans.

This is a life or death situation type storm. These winds will be strong enough to destroy everything in site. Any animals, trees or {gulps in throat} even people will be killed instantly if exposed to these winds or hit by flying debris from these winds.

Katrina is forecast to potentially remain a Cat 5 at landfall. My forecast has her being a Cat 5 at landfall with a landfall somewhere along the Eastern coastline, before headed north.. Possibly going directly over New Orleans, giving them winds of at least a bonafied Category 4.

Storm surge from this storm is going to be astronomical. At least 25-30 ft.. maybe even bigger depending on how strong Katrina is at landfall, if she comes in during high tide.

Katrina will also cause catastrophic damage inland as it may take her time to weaken if she makes landfall as a Category 5.

Here's my experimental 5 day forecast on Katrina:
Tonight: Last restful night for Louisiana, Katrina baring down. Max winds: 165 mph
Monday: Making landfall near New Orleans on the western side. Max winds: 165 mph.. CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE AND NUMEROUS FATALITIES EXPECTED
Tuesday: Beginning to weaken, accelerating.. Max winds:60 mph over KY/TN
Wednesday: Rain maker for Canada. Max winds: 45 mph
Thursday: Well extratropical, and retired. Max winds: 25 mph

Good forecast Josephine. Looks grim, but then again it was already grim 12 hours ago.

*After* destroying New Orleans. Pontchartrain is to the north.

Your landfall has it to the west of NOLA?

most of the models shows east?
