I was wondering that too. It seems like Mobile would get 75-85 mph winds at most, barring a last-minute shift east.

From the 11 pm forecast advisory:
Code: Select all
ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE 904 MB
MAX SUSTAINED WINDS 140 KT WITH GUSTS TO 170 KT.
64 KT....... 90NE 90SE 50SW 80NW.
50 KT.......110NE 100SE 75SW 100NW.
34 KT.......200NE 200SE 150SW 180NW.
12 FT SEAS..325NE 250SE 250SW 225NW.
WINDS AND SEAS VARY GREATLY IN EACH QUADRANT. RADII IN NAUTICAL
MILES ARE THE LARGEST RADII EXPECTED ANYWHERE IN THAT QUADRANT.Just occurs to me those could be nautical miles.

If you mean the chart that Recurve posted, it shows the distance from the center that each wind field will occur and how far out from the center each will occur and which direction.
Example: 64kt (or hurricane force) winds are forecasted to extend 90nm to the northeast of the center, 90nm from the southeast, 50nm to the southeast, and 80nm to the northwest. Then it gives you the same info for the 50KT and 34KT (tropical storm force winds).
Edit: The distance given is the furthest you can expect those winds to occur, according to the forecast. The closer you are to the center, the higher the winds may be depending on the strength at that time.
