Look at the south western part of Katrina, she looks to be strengthening on the radar.

Be careful trying to interpret trends on radar. The core of the storm is lifting just north (in latitude) of the Mobile site so the south and west side of the storm is now easier to pick up. Probably not a change in strength, just a better radar signature.

i don't think strengthening is the right word, maybe better organized, more symetrical

i definitely noticed that as well, Katrina just made herself look better for a few more hours for the textbook photos of her

She is far more organized than Frances or even Ivan this late into landfall and looks better organized now. Katrina has never followed rules, why would she now?

I agree, some hurricanes tend to get better organized on land, she did the same thing over FL.

But it looks like she is pulling more moisture in with her. NOLA is gonna get hammered with heavy rain for many many more hours.

Look at her here, looks like she landed right now, not hours and hours ago. Frances was a wreck with gaping dry spots and sparadic feeeder bands with a gigantic eye.

Word on the levees is that levee section nine was breeched on the East side of the city. That's the only report on the levees that I know of right now, but most of the levees have held, but the lake did top over a little bit I believe.

We are watching this as we are 1 1/4 hr west of Jackon and are feeling very stiff winds here in Monroe. Looks as if the storm is still going almost due N instead of NE?

Yep, Frances was the junkiest storm that I have ever seen.
