Jim Cantore & 37 foot storm surge in Gulfport, MS

#1 Postby steveklein » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:26 pm

Do you believe it? Something doesn't seem to add up. I know Gulfport was in or very close to the eastern eyewall... but 37 foot storm surge? Am I supposed to believe this thing was 10 feet worse than Camille? How could that even happen?

I think Jim was maybe 18 or 20 feet above sea level and had 6-8 feet of water and not 27 feet above sea level with 10 feet of water.

If there was a 37 foot water rise... THIRTY SEVEN FEET... then there would be no sign of any structures that were less than 20 feet tall on the beach. They would all be washed away.

Is anyone else skeptical?

I'm sure that we will all find out soon. Don't sweat it.

It does seem odd, we will have to see if any one else can confirm it. I remember last year after Ivan there were some reports of a storm surge from the high20s to low30s but it actually was around 16-19 feet.
