What constitures news....

#1 Postby MomH » Mon Aug 29, 2005 3:58 pm

I am rather upset. I don't have cable (can't afford it). The major non-cable stations quit carrying the news of Katrina by 11 am. You would think at least one of them would have stayed with it. Guess ad money and the soaps are more important.

OK --- I've vented

I agree. But, what also upsets me is that the last few days leading up to this storm, and today,,,,,the news is also full of "fun, fun, fun stuff to do.....", and people smiling away at this event or that,,,,and fashion models on runways,,,,,all interspersed with the ads with more people leaping in the air full of their joy at taking such-and-such a pill or whatever.......and the news anchors grinning out at me with their big teeth reporting today's weather or whatever.
Sickening. This country needs to return to God.

Yep, there is a definate reason why all the wild, wierd and wacky stuff lately.

As a sidenote we were pressuring Sharon to kick the jews out of their homes in Isreal and now many of our citizens have lost their homes. Tragic but interesting nevertheless

Let's not go off-topic on this and definitely don't go political.

Thanks!

like MomH, I do not have a subscription to cable TV and hence no CNN, etc. I depend upon local broadcast stations--ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, etc.

The irony is that the best coverage of this storm--certainly a totally different picture of it from what was on our local news was on the BBC World Service, which is rebroadcast by PBS. They had MORE coverage in only a couple of minutes than many local stations....

I totally agree with MomH about the terrible coverage. Here we got the usual soap operas, entertainment garbage, fashion shows, etc. and it sounds from reading this board that what coverage we did get was somewhere between slanted and erroneous. For example, up here the impression is that there was NO flooding in New Orleans!!!!! But then people are posting of neighborhoods with people sitting on rooftops and dead bodies floating in the streets. And I confirmed this by going to posted links where, even if I could not see the video, could see at least the headlines, etc.

There is something very, very wrong with our news reporting in the US, I think.

Any idea on how to make the WWLTV link work? I have the latest Mediaplayer but it says that I am missing some codecs and I have to know what codecs I'm missing to go and find them on the internet.

However, there is no way to know what codecs WWLTV requires....
