Lafourche (please, if you know ANYTHING)
Does anyone know ANYTHING about Lafourche parish right now? Larose, Cut off, Galiano... that string of towns. I'd love to know how it's faring.

Spoke via cellphone to someone that had been forced to weather the storm in Mathews. His house came through virtually unscathed, however, mostly because a huge house in front acted as a windbreak and got the brunt of the damage in his neighborhood. Although I think it remained structurally intact (its a brand new neighborhood). He said much of the road down LA 1 was underwater, he heard that the road heading to Grand Isle is under at least 20' of water. I think the flooding is making it very difficult to get around to inspect conditions, but there is spotty cellphone coverage, in that area, if you can get through.

Isn't Empire in Lafourche Parish? (I do know it's on the river south of NO). If so, I have third-hand hearsay (sorry, no link for verification). My parents are in BR without power, and I've been calling them from California to update them on info I've learned here and elsewhere. (Mostly here, tho. Thx storm2k). My dad has been listening to a transistor radio and heard that someone in Empire has reported that seven bodies have been recovered from the waters there. The news report also said that they are planning to dynamite one of the levees near there tomorrow to relieve some of the flooding around there.

No, Empire is not in Lafourche Parish. It is in Plaquemines Parish going towards the mouth of the MS river.
Oops, sorry about that cajungal. Sister Virginia Lee would not pleased that my retention of her Louisiana geography lessons is so poor!
But I am curious about all of those little towns between Grand Isle and NO. Any recent reports from Buras or Cutoff? Has anyone else heard a similar report about Empire or about dynamiting a levee?
