Amazing zero flood deaths

I think that is just because no one can get down to the worst areas. I assure you, however grievous this is, there will be a lot of deaths from Katrina.

I hate to break it to you, but that's not exactly true. There are many sections on the coast line that they can't get to yet.

May be another day or two before death tolls begin to come in. Especially if you have a situation where a beach community was flooded out. Waters may push some bodies into the gulf, lakes, marshes etc. as they receed. I suspect the list of missing may be a lot initially due to this.

nooned expected andrews death toll to only be 26 either.....i think those saying there will be 100s of deaths should just wait....noone knows for sure yet.

We all hope that fact would hold true. However, given the hundreds of square miles subjeced to flooding, it will take weeks to determine the number of deaths. A true tragedy for that region and our nation. PLease donate money or blood to the American Red Cross.

Uh... we haven't even seen officials get into SE LA or the heavily devastated(and probably completely gone) Bay St. Louis/Pass Christian area... I hate to break it to you, but we may not know for weeks the staggering toll.

3 of those deaths were those near death that couldnt even get up to be moved, a couple traffic deaths which may or may not have occured on any day....

that leaves the tree deaths.....which there will several......all im saying is there is no proof one way or another of mass casualties that some are saying is inevitable

I am aware of that, but at this point, dead is dead, and it was a result of the storm and should not be taken lightly or blown off by spinning this into 'oh there's no flooding deaths'.

blowing it off and filling out death certificates before there are any reports are equally unnecessary imo.......and im not doing either. based on the orginal posters history im not sure what hes doing but he did say that gusts dont count because the dont cause damage in another thread so i know which way im leaning on his intent.

A lot of bodies may never be found. Remember there are alligators in the marshes and they are looking for food just like any other Katrina survivor.

Yes, traffic deaths are included here in the deaths associated with Charley.

As I noted in another thread, I have third-hand hearsay (sorry, no link for verification) that at least seven bodies have been recovered from the flood waters in Empire, LA (close to where Katrina came in south of NO on the Miss River). My parents are in BR without power, and I've been calling them from California to update them on info I've learned here and elsewhere. My dad has been listening to a transistor radio and heard that report from Empire. The news report also said that they are planning to dynamite one of the levees near there tomorrow to relieve some of the flooding around there. I don't know anything beyond that.

ETA: When would the authorities have had an opportunity to calculate flooding deaths when all resources are now allocated to rescuing those who are alive and on their rooftops?

I've heard a report that I can't confirm that Grand Isle is under 20 feet of the water and the people who stayed can't be accounted for.

If true... well, Grand Isle probably isn't a city anymore.
