When will New Orleans Re-open?

#1 Postby KLP124 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 8:16 pm

I have a friend who has reservations at a hotel there for this coming weekend (Labor Day). The reservations are non-refundable so she's going to try to go. I know Bourbon St. didn't *look* that bad, but I don't see the city getting back to normal for several weeks. Plus, I can only imagine how difficult GETTING there would be!

Has anyone see any kind of statements from the city saying they're not allowing outsiders in?? I know when we have hurricanes around here, it's not unusual for them to block roads and only allow people who have proof of residency by.

Officials are saying they won't allow anyone except emergency services into the city for several days. In addition, Blanco was saying something about I-10 being gone in some places.

I have to believe that she can get her money back under the act of God clause. Cuz she won't be allowed in NO this weekend or anytime soon.

I've heard that it would be Friday at the earliest before anyone can get back into New Orleans. I know NO officials have told people to stay away.

Same thing happened to me with a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale during Jeanne last year: hotel was closed, I had already pre-paid, no refund. I got an e-mail stating they would refund the money, but I had to call the hotel, and then the did refund the money, no real problem. Now I spend the $5 bucks extra and get refundable rooms.

They will still be doing recovery operations then. I don't see NO opening to tourism for at least a month.
