Katrina Deadlier Than Camille?

#1 Postby canegrl04 » Tue Aug 30, 2005 7:21 am

With early estimates of at least 80 dead in Mississipi alone,it looks as if Katrina will have killed more than Camille (256).Very frightening and tragic

Concur. I expect the Hancock County death toll to be very very high.

No matter what the final count is I would estimate the total number of deaths will have actually been 10 to 20% higher because a lot of the people who didn't evacuate were poor, homeless, familyless, or ill either mentally or physically. These are often people who are not counted in census counts and since there most likely will be many who are just never found.
