We have seen hell and her name is Katrina

#1 Postby wxcrazytwo » Tue Aug 30, 2005 7:46 am

Katrina has created the worst case scenario for NO without being a CAT5. The levees have been breached and the City of NO and surrounding areas are becoming inundated that were not inundated before. People Katrina has created hell and it is for real. I have seen many natural disasters, but nothing hits home like this one. I have been through many dangerous earthquakes. Further, I have witnessed my first true live experience of canes in 2004, and I have to tell ya, this year has been surreal. I have a new found respect for them. Anyone who has said that NO has dodged a bullet, think again.

Furthermore, We may be witnessing the end of NO, because regardless of all the technology out there, there ain't nothing gonna be able to pump out all that water. And even if NO were to recover, it won't be the same. It is simply too much. I find myself speechless and at times wanting to cry because I cannot believe the devastation.

ANYONE WANTING TO JOIN WITH ME IN COLLECTING CLOTHES, FOOD AND MONEY, PLEASE PM ME. I AM GOING TO START A CLOTHES AND CAN FOOD DRIVE FOR THE PEOPLE DEVASTATED BY THIS HELL. I WILL ALSO BE SELLING MY MUFFINS, COOKIES, ETC, AND DONATING THE MONEY TO HELP THE RELIEF. THANKS...

I and many others will donate to help. But there will no doubt be established charities to do that with, such as the American Red Cross.

All the generous gestures are great, but you have to be able to get in there and that's just not happening any time soon.

I think you are wonderful for quickly organizing to help!! What a sweetie!!

Your cash from cookies, given to Red Cross, will provide immediate aid to those in need.

The logistics of distributing donated clothing, food, household items in such a massive disaster may be delayed until resources are available to sort them, box them for certain areas, and transport to distribution points. So, it may take a while to be sent to the area, but will still be valuable!

storm2k has a Paypal account made up for donations to keep the web site going.
maybe they can set up a sepcial donation fund for the victims of Katirna.
I think we all trust the storm2k team to make sure the money gets to the right places.

I live in Jupiter and work for the Town. We experienced two hurricanes last year and received so much help from folks across the country which was so appreciated. We started a drive yesterday for clothes, canned goods, etc for our brothers and dsisters on the gulf coast. Every little bit helps, believe me.

Instead of going to the message board, try neighbourhood donations. Put out a flyer to the homes suggesting to leave a bag of old clothes to send for Louisiana and Mississippi on a certain day. Then, on that day, go collect the bags. I am waiting for first word on charities in Canada going to Katrina affected area's. Inlcuding our flood watch for her.

Well, just three days ago, when my microwave quit (I'm a college student), I was thinking, "You know, they've got to have a food drive some time soon, and then I can get rid of all that canned soup and boxes of dry macaroni and cheese I can't use anymore..."

Just didn't figure it would be so soon. No doubt my college will start a food drive today...
