I wish I had pictures of some of the people missing and info.....But most of the profiles on here are sketchy at best. Can I also suggest that each and every one of us UPDATE our own personal profile so that if ever this kind of catatophe happens again, there is info to try and contact you!!! Even if it is just to add where you are from!!! This board is like a family and we all worry about one another. Just makes it easier for those who care about you.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I would NOT want my name, address, etc. and photo published on the internet, unless that decision were made by my designated next of kin. What a wonderful bunch of information for identity thieves.

Or, what if someone read on here that a certain person they knew was "missing" and called their loved one, before official notification was given by officials? Or even worse, the person in question wasn't missing at all, the information was in error, and their loved one was shocked unneccessarily? Yikes!

Furthermore, I believe the posting of such information without permission would put the owner of this forum into liability exposure.

I think all we want is a nic/real first name/city. That's it. No further info needed. Of course for future check in purposes, members can PM a mod a phone number. So we can check on them. Their private info is never divulged on the boards.

Exactly...... hard to check on someone with the name BUBBAJOE, town, LALA Land. Nothing that would be posted on the boards. Privacy is priority.

As far as posting pictures ect and other info on the missing, look at 911.....there were many pictures with much info put out......when searching for a missing loved one.......people will do whatever it takes. Just as with the Tsunami......
Remember this, once the recovery is really in gear, they will still have to identify those who did not make it thru this.

Names definitely help.

A handful of people sent in contact information, but didn't include their names. Can you imagine calling someone and asking to speak to "Bob The Leprechaun," "x-y-no (ex-wino)," or "littlerhody?" I still don't know what a littlerhody is.

especially cause there are so many of us.... :D

Nothing to worry about with this Bob the Leprechaun...all Katrina will bring us in Ohio is some needed rain.

Prayers go out to all those whose lives will never be the same.

I agree with the above comments, for the below reasons - due to the oversight of a staff member I spoke with two days after Hurricane Andrew, I was considered a fatality at my second employer for three weeks, until I called at that time just to ask them if I could come back to work (my position was "as needed", so I did not always call them on a daily or weekly basis).

Needless to say, my supervisor was as angry as glad at that point, until I explained to them that I followed hospital procedure, and called them just 48 hours or so after the hurricane had passed.

In situations like this, there is much confusion, and it's not unsual for someone to be incorrectly listed as missing or deceased, even though it is not true.

Perhaps something about our wishes in such a circumstance could be noted in our profile for future reference. For example, we could provide any information we would want or wouldn't mind being made public, an emergency e-mail or phone contact (for Mod eyes only!) and a picture to be posted in the event that we are presumed missing following a hurricane. We could also indicate if we would rather remain private and not have any information posted.

For anyone looking for lost loved ones, the "Hurricane Katrina" forum over at wwltv.com has many requests for info on missing people, and some answers about a few of the missing.

Has anyone heard from member "Sean in New Orleans" yet? Last I knew he posted this: http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=72318 from the French Quarter right before the hurricane hit.

Hello, everyone. I'm fine, in Lafayette, LA at my sister's home. Please allow me a couple of days to recooperate myself mentally and physically and I will come back and tell you my amazing, challenging story of survival and meeting great people from all over the world in Downtown New Orleans. My hotel had to shut down.....more later.
